Overview
Darwin Lodges is a lovely site for a relaxing break. It is very quiet with lots of trees. It is pleasant to eat outside on the decking and listen to the birdsong. Indoors the lodges are very cosy and well appointed. The living/dining/kitchen was well planned and included dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer. The lodge was immaculately clean. There is an onsite shop, swimming pool and restaurant. There is a soft play which charges for children but it was worth the money. There are also games facilities and playgrounds. There is a reasonable amount of space between the lodges. Good family holiday site.
Transport & Parking
We came by car. Disabled parking by reception and you park by your lodge, so it's ideal We drove up to the swimming baths and restaurant. Plenty of parking spaces up there too.
Access
Drop kerbs into reception. Our lodge isn't disabled adapted, so I had to mount 5 wide steps, with handrail, to get into the lodge. There is a small threshold to cross from the veranda into the lodge, but once in everything is completely level including all thresholds. However, there are lodges adapted for wheelchair users, which have a ramped entry to the veranda. Those have a shower with a built in seat. We had the ensuite in ours, which has a walk in shower, but we brought our own suction grab bar. There are paths on site between the lodges and to other places there. These seemed fairly smooth, apart from the one in the trim trail. There are no benches on that walk, so not suitable for anyone who might need a rest. Another of the adults in our party uses a walker too, and they were able to walk to the swimming pool etc. However, you would need to look where you are on the site. Our lodge was quite close. The Swimming Pool: level access. Communal changing rooms with cubicles but the disabled changing room was an actual room, with toilet and seated shower. The entry point into the pool was through the baby pool. There was only one handrail but the steps were shallow and wide. I couldn't walk through the shallow water but my husband helped me. Then there were more steps beyond the barrier, with one hand rail but also easy steps. I could leave my walker by the side of the pool. The pool was all the same depth but there were two lanes for swimming, the rest was free flow. The water was nice and tepid not chilly. Restaurant: there is a ramp up the side. Three steps at the front but no handrail.
Toilets
Accessible toilet in reception, swimming pool disabled changing room and restaurant.
Staff
Staff were very helpful and efficient. We were able to hire a fan as it was very hot weather.
