Overview
I've been to Dance Base several times and what impresses me each time is the relaxed atmosphere. The design of the building makes it feel very open and airy. There are spaces where you can sit and wait, away from a crowd, which is perfect when you suffer from anxiety. The staff are friendly and understanding, they have always been happy to take as much time with me as I needed.
Transport & Parking
I have always arrived via public transport. Taxi's can stop right outside the building and there is a bus stop just a minute away from the building.
Access
The signage in Dance Base is very clear, I could find my way round the building well. The lifts are large, often I feel claustrophobic in lifts but these ones were fine, especially the one from the main entrance.
Toilets
There are accessible toilets on all levels. These are labelled clearly. The toilet seats are yellow which I thought was an unusual colour but when I mentioned this is passing to the reception staff they told me that they run a project for people with parkinsons and that yellow is a good, bright colour that works well for people with parkinsons and dementia. In fact thats why all the furniture in the building is brightly coloured so that it is easily identifiable. I originally just thought it was really cheery!
Staff
The Dance Base staff are probably the most friendly venue staff I've experienced recently. They take time to answer any questions asked of them and you never feel like you're being annoying. They understand I suffer badly from anxiety and make sure I feel comfortable within the building.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
On a Friday Dance Base have sharings of professional companies work. These are free and open to the public. I've found that these are a great way to get to know the building and the staff. After attending a few of these I felt comfortable to go and see a showcase, which I knew would be much busier, within the building. I'm now looking forward to seeing fringe shows there!
