Italian Restaurant - Tasty!

Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Powerchair

Overview

Popular little Italian restaurant. Good value, especially if you use the lunch or early evening menu deal. Generally good access, and helpful staff. A couple of suggestions of things which could be improve access, but overall good experience.

Transport & Parking

4

Balloch train station is nearby - a couple minutes walk along the street. This is a small train station and not always staffed - so only basic facilities there. There are local buses in the area. La Cucina has its own small car park behind the restaurant (I'm unsure how many disabled parking places as we didn't use it). You can usually also get parked on the street to the side of the restaurant, which is free. The road immediately outside the restaurant is the main street, so I would avoid parking there if you can.

Access

3.5

To get into the restaurant there are 2 steps or a permanent ramp. There is a small lip at the bottom of the door, which I expect would be OK for the majority of people, no problem for a wheelchair to get over. The door pushes open, there is no push-button or way of alerting people you are there, however, a member of staff is usually standing to welcome/direct people, just inside the door. The door/front is all glass, so it is likely that they would be able to see you approaching/assist if necessary. The restaurant mostly has tables and seats which can be moved around, so layout can be adjusted to suit your needs/group size. Generally seemed enough room to get around between tables, but at busy times it could possibly be a bit tighter. The whole restaurant is on one level throughout.

Toilets

3

There is an accessible toilet and 2 male and 2 female toilets. On the door from the restaurant to the toilets it only shows a male/female sign, I was a little unsure if the accessible toilet was in the same place, so an additional sign here might be useful. There is a door from the restaurant to where the toilets are, the corridor here is fairly narrow if in a bigger wheelchair/scooter, but is ok. The accessible toilet has a sliding door. It is also the baby change area. Toilet is big enough to have a carer with you if required. Toilet had a lowering support handle to right side (when on toilet) and fixed wall support on left. Did have an emergency cord, and although going straight down it didn't reach the floor - so this could also be changed.

Staff

Staff are welcoming and attentive. Always seem friendly and willing to help.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Good to know the company now have opened a small cafe next door to the restaurant (which is open longer hours during the day than the restaurant). They also have a takeaway menu.
