Overview
We visited Crumlin Road Gaol after doing a self guided walking tour of the area affected by the Troubles. It was a perfect end to the day. They have tried to make as much as possible accessible, though there are some doorways that are just too narrow, so you can't get to see everything.
Transport & Parking
We arrived by motorhome and having let the security man on the gates know we wanted to do the visitor experience, he let us through the gate and directed us to a large car park. I think there were blue badge spaces but we parked in one of the coach bays. The car park was a reasonable surface and only on a slight slope.
Access
The tour is self-guided but with videos and audio to explain about different aspects of the prison. The main route through is wheelchair accessible and there is a lift to get you to the main cell block. You have to press a button though and wait for a member of staff to come, as the route is complicated. The cells have narrow doors. My chair isn't that wide and I couldn't fit through. I could see enough though from the doors. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into the part about death row and had to bypass that. The external part, around the walls was all accessible.
Toilets
There were several accessible toilets but I didn't use any of them.
Staff
All staff were very friendly and helpful.
