Overview

Formally known as “The Bellhouse Hotel” it was built in 1926, then owned by the De Vere group, It was later sold to the Cairn hotel group, a Newcastle based company, for around £16 million. Old photographs show us that the hotels frontage remains as seen today, and that is good, because it’s the attractive frontage that appeals to the eye. 138 beautiful elegant rooms with modern interiors, and air conditioned, complemented by bright orange furnishings will make for a pleasant stay. The hotel was re-launched on the 24th September 2015 as the “Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross” following a £20 million pound refurbishment. The 138 bed roomed four star hotel, set amoungst a background of woodland trees, stands at the edge of the Children hills, and just 17 minutes away from the centre of London. BMW group company designworks were asked to create this lovely hotel, which includes a delightful restaurant, serving contemporary and locally sourced ingredients, and a bar named “1269” named as such due to the historical connections with the small town of Beaconsfield, when in 1269 it was granted a charter to allow an annual market for livestock to be Sold. The restaurant is certainly a pleasant venue to celebrate a special event, in fact, we had celebrated our 55th anniversary here seven years ago, and have returned , after other visits, to now celebrate our 62nd anniversary. The hotels has a Spa and conference centre, and is a busy hotel, difficult at times to find parking near to the entrance, but the Spa created here received its name “Wave Spa and wellness centre” offering a quite serene escape and very popular with local communities, and includes a 15 m Pool, sauna, steam room and five treatment rooms. It would be good for disabled to now read all the details below about the accessible information, as the hotels website calls this a wheelchair friendly hotel, but we have concerns about this title (however, don’t let the next observations below put you off visiting, as most disabled can cope with these small problems) For more details if you have to use a large scooter, then read the review on Euan’s Guide, CROWNE PLAZA GERRARDS CROSS entitled “NOT FOT WHEELCHAIR USERS” But also read “DISABLED TRAVELLERS MIDSOMER MURDERS TOUR” which offers advice if it’s a wheelchair user. Overall, this has been a favourite of ours for many years, as we can cope with its small problems, and we would certainly recommend you considering making use of this hotel if in the area of Beaconsfield. ======================================================= ON OUR NEXT REVIEW (part 2) We have listed a few drinks that may appeal to you when visiting.

Transport & Parking

3

On arriving along a busy main road, you will pull into a large enough car park area, but a very busy hotel, so not always easy to park close to entrance. There are only three bays marked as disabled, and many other reviews also mention that these spaces can be filled with cars with no disabled badges on view ( as if anyone would consider parking there if not disabled) a problem it seems the hotel cannot be bothered to keep an eye on, as local and business users take no notice and regularly park in these spaces, (something that upsets us each time we visit.

Access

3

Now, it can be difficult to get from the carpark up to the hotels main entrance, as it involves a ride away from the bays and around the frontage along the drive to then get up a slope that is required to get to the front entrance, jolly hard work for your carer pushing a wheelchair. Then you need to get into a revolving glass door, before arriving at the reception desk. After this, the hotel is level enough, but slightly difficult for many, as it’s a small lift that has to be used to get to the bedrooms, bar and restaurant. ( A large scooter would really struggle ) BUT don’t let these notes put you off visiting, it is a very nice hotel.

Toilets

See our other reviews for public toilets. It’s quite big in the cubicles, simply furnished, with pull cord and grab rails. Very clean and well maintained. (Photo on our other review for disabled traveller.

Staff

We have always found them very helpful and kind, so no concerns here.
