Shopping and a Coffee

Overview
Coffee shop located on the ground floor of The Overgate shopping centre.
Transport & Parking
You can park in the car park at The Overgate shopping centre however, even if you have a Blue Badge you still have to pay for the parking. There is council parking at the back of The Overgate that is free of charge for Blue Badge holders, this is on-street parking so you might struggle to park in some of the spaces if you have to exit the car from the boot. You have to walk a little distance to both of these car parking areas as Costa Coffee is located near the back of The Overgate. Costa Coffee is in the city centre of Dundee so it is close to bus stops that buses stop at from all over Dundee and Angus. The train station and bus stations are around a 10-minute walk away from The Overgate.
Access
It is an open space where Costa Coffee is located in The Overgate so there are no doors that you have to go through to get to it. There are stairs to go down as you come to the front of Costa Coffee but, there is a ramp down to the right-hand side as you walk towards Costa Coffee that you can go down. You should be able to see this in the first photo that I uploaded at the end of this review, the ramp isn’t steep so it’s easy to get down. I would say the counter where you order and pay for your items is a little high for wheelchair users, I couldn’t really hear the staff member when I was ordering and my carer had to do everything for the payments. The queue area was wide enough to get through though. The tables were nicely spaced out throughout Costa Coffee though and at a great height for wheelchair users. The only issue I had with the accessibility was that there were chairs and a table right at the bottom of the ramp to enter and it was a tight squeeze to get past them. Luckily there was no one sitting at them so my carer was able to move them. Again you’ll be able to see what I mean in one of my images below.
Toilets
There are no toilets directly at Costa Coffee but there are accessible toilets in The Overgate. They are actually beside where the shopping centre car park is at the exit that leads out to the council car park spaces so, as I said you have to walk a little distance to them. I don’t have any photos of the accessible toilets but, I have shopped at The Overgate for years and from previous visits I remember the accessible toilets were big enough for my wheelchair and someone to help me. You can collect the RADAR key from the customer service desk that is up on the second floor outside New Look. Unfortunately, there is no Changing Places Toilet in The Overgate shopping centre, the closest one is located in the V&A which is around a 10 minute walk away.
Staff
All staff seemed very friendly when I visited. My carer waited for our drinks and I went to get a table, a staff member came over straight away and offered to move a chair for me.
