Overview
Thoroughly loved my day out with my colleague to Conisbrough Castle. All the staff were so lovely to us and really helpful, they went out of their way to make sure that not only my colleague and I but the class of school children and the staff members had a good day!
Transport & Parking
Upon arrival my colleague and I had difficulty finding the general car park due to the sign being unclear, however the car park for disabled users was much easier to find as it was near to the visitors centre. The visitors centre/ gift shop was very easily accessed, it was spacious, plenty of light and very well laid out.
Access
The visitors centre/ gift shop was very easily accessed, it was spacious, plenty of light and very well laid out. To get up to the castle there was a very steep path, not ideal for wheelchair users or anyone who are physically challenged and there wasn’t a handrail for the path for anyone to support themselves on.
Toilets
There was a new accessible toilet that was easy to reach but no changing places facilities.
Staff
The activities the staff did were very informative, got all the children interested and involved and very interactive, especially with sensory bag the staff supplied to the children with objects to look at, feel and smell, all related to the history of the castle. To access the castle itself required climbing quite a few sets of stairs and inside the castle there were a few sets of stairs which were uneven, like I said again not ideal for wheelchair users or people who are physically challenged, thankfully the stairs getting into the castle and inside all had handrails. But the visit was very enjoyable and I would definitely go again and I will recommend it as a good day out!
