Overview
I wanted somewhere to go out for fish and chips on a Friday night, after a work trip away. A colleague recommended Colman's. I popped down earlier in the week to check out accessibility and book a table. I was expecting fairly average fish and chips but it was so much better than that! The food was amazing!
Transport & Parking
I arrived under my own steam by wheelchair, as I was staying at Sandhaven Holiday Park. There are several car parks though along the promenade and I'm sure I saw blue badge parking in most of them. You can then walk along the prom but it can be tricky with a wheelchair because of sand being washed up. Alternatively, there is a lovely wide, level pavement that runs along the road route.
Access
There is a ramp down to the main entrance door, with a bonded resin surface. It is a little steeper than I am comfortable with, so when I left, I turned around and went up backwards. The main door is automatic with a button, but it was broken when I was there. The restaurant is upstairs but there is a lift just inside the entrance. Once upstairs, there is enough space to get around and the staff moved chairs quickly to allow me to get to my table.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet downstairs, so best to go on arrival before heading up to the restaurant. I didn't use it on this occasion and forgot to have a look what it was like. It had a big door though and looked like the more modern type.
Staff
The staff were lovely! I felt a little self conscious, eating out alone (just me and my assistance dog) but the staff were great. They offered water for my dog and they moved unnecessary stuff out of the way so that I had more space.
