Overview

It's often the case that when you visit somewhere a lot you don't realise how it changes over time. With that in mind I thought it timely to write a new review for CodeBase. Since last writing about this tech hub a lot has been added. Yes, we still have the coffee and cakes but then tech runs on sugar so it's kinda compulsory. However, we do have some more automation to explore!

Transport & Parking

3.5

CodeBase isn't the easiest of places to get to by public transport if you have a mobility impairment but taxis can drop you at the door. If you're a cyclist it is easier as there are cycle racks outside the main entrance a short distance along the street. If like me, you're a wheelchair user, you may find using the bus or tram a good solution for travelling there. I tend to either get the bus and get off in Lothian Road or if the weather is being kind I will catch the tram to the West End and wheel along to CodeBase via Rutland Square. If you are driving then you'll find some Blue Badge parking bays outside of the Lyceum Theatre and another set outside of the Traverse Theatre.

Access

4.5

Overtime the building has undergone some upgrading within CodeBase and now you find the old patchy floor in the coffee area and hot desking has been given a make over with a nice new coat of floor paint. It's brighter and more importantly smoother to wheel over. The door to the toilet area lobby has been upgraded to have a fancy push button that opens the door for you. A fabulous improvement over having to do the acrobatic performance of holding doors whilst trying to wheel or drive chairs. This beautiful automation of doors has been carried on to include the double doors leading to the meeting rooms and offices. No more having to decide if you need to open both doors or breathe in a bit and chance getting through one half. A lovely, swipe card, triggered, automated door system gracefully sweeps open both doors to welcome you in! With its range of spaces and indeed different floors the building is fairly accessible with good surfaces, lovely bright rooms, and reasonably easy to access doors.

Toilets

The accessible loo on the ground floor near to the reception is much improved with the addition of the automated door to get you into the lobby. The disabled toilet is a spacious room, plenty of grab rails, an interesting choice of decor in places with vivid lime green paint. Something of an old favourite as it simply works despite it's quirky colour scheme.

Everyone in the Codebase team has been very helpful. If they don't know how to do something or fix something they always manage to make things happen. Cheerful and welcoming too!
