Overview

This is a historical public house, dating back to the late 18th or early 19th century, with records showing us that it was here in existence in 1874, apparently it stood in New Row, but now known as Castle Hill with a good view over towards the famous Kenilworth Castle (photo 1). There is a public car park available right next door (photo 2) and stood on a row of very attractive cottages (photo 3) which now have on the same side of Castle Hill 13 other listed buildings, and 4 others opposite the public house. It was itself listed as a grade 11 building in November 1971 (photo 4). The entrance is level enough although narrow (photo 5) and takes you via a push pull door into the bar area (photo 6) It is an independent public house, owned by the same family for 30 years, ( they also run the “Harrington on the hill” restaurant a couple of doors away, (WE HAVE OFFERED A REVIEW OF THIS RESTAURANT and worth reading, as the Harringtons is the best of the Eating places along this row) Although not a favourite of ours, as the Clarendon Arms is rather run down at the moment, in need of a bit of loving care, but it is a homely family type of pub, with some original features, stained glass windows, and a log fire during the colder months. Its just a down to earth type of pub, which offers simple pub grub, but not appealing enough for us to use. There are enough seating areas on typical bar chairs and tables (photo 7) offering a good selection of drinks at the bar (photo 8) with a long narrow passage which leads to other areas to sit at (photo 9) and reasonably decorated throughout, as long as you don’t look to closely (photo 10) with a small area more of a little restaurant area but with same furnishings (photo 11) with interesting enough photos all throughout the pub (photo 12) which will lead you to the far end of the pub (photo 13) and to the ladies and gents toilets (photo 14) with no disabled toilet, and the toilets are plain simple cubicles so a bit difficult for wheelchair users (photo 15) There is a tiny outdoor patio, again difficult for disabled (photo 16) ================================= This is just one of a number of reviews we have for you, in the Kenilworth area 328 Warwickshire Park hotel 329.
