Overview
This is the smallest of the 4 Christmas Markets, it is situated above Princes Mall and adjacent to Waverley Station and the Balmoral Hotel. It is predominantly food, drink, live music .The aromas of wood fired oven products, bbq foods and spiced mulled wine drifts around the roof top Mall, this is also the more congested and the least spacious area of the 4 Markets, there is limited street level access it’s very, very slippery when wet, carpeted areas are taped down and a bit uneven so be careful. Again different compared to the others, there is an open lodge marquee with seating and portable, accessible toilet facilities as well as provision in local bars and hotels.
Transport & Parking
You are literally on top of Waverley Station, there are 2 bus stops on either side of Princes Street and there are 20 services available both within the City and from other parts of Lothian, Borders and Central Scotland. Parking is available on all the adjacent streets and the Tram stop in St Andrew Square 5 mins away. There are pay to park restrictions up until 18.30, there are also ample taxi ranks in the area.
Access
Access is on Street level with only 2 entrance and exit points, one next to Waverley Steps , the other Near East Bridge next to entrance and exit to Princes Mall shopping centre below, they can be congested and difficult to negotiate, during the day and early evening the retain outlet below has additional foods and drinks with accessible RADAR key toilets. There are 3 lifts from Rail Station level to Princes Mall to Street level.
Toilets
Did not use but there is ample provision both fully equipped and well serviced.
Staff
Smaller venue so less event staff, helpful but a bit more harassed than at the other locations.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This was our least favourite venue, but again it’s a wee bit more specialised for what it offers, again good idea having this as a separate venue.
