This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Mobility Scooter

Overview

We visited here with family during July when it was hot, we decided to visit early as we thought we would see more animals active. There is blue badge parking next too the entrance but as with many Car parks it was gravel, not ideal for wheelchair, scooter, or those with walking/sight issues. Entry is up a slope from the car park straight into the shop, cafe and entrance to the farm. We we told to take a photo on our phones of the activities on offer that day. This was a blackboard display by the cafe entrance. We were told that should any alterations need to be made during the day due to the weather conditions . This would be made over the loud speaker system . Some of the activities include piglet racing which was fun to watch. You could chose which one you thought would win,, they had fun names such as iron ham, hamuel l Jackson, Chris hamworth plus at least four others. Another activity was guinea pig fishing, you were given a stick with a piece of string attached, at the bottom of the string leaves were tied on and the guinea pigs ate the food. I’ve never seen guinea pigs move so quickly. This activity is aimed at children but as it was so quiet I was able to have a go. We had purchased bags of food at the entrance as we could feed sheep, pigs, goats, highland cows, and alpaca. This was certainly fun and many of the animals enjoyed being stroked by us. There are very few paths and much of the time you are going round fields. Which means it’s quite difficult as the ground is uneven. Making it particularly difficult for people who have sight and mobility issues. Certainly not wheelchair friendly. If I hadn’t have had my scooter it would have been virtually impossible. Not easy with the scooter but we did our best to find a less bumpy route round. We had lunch the cafe which was very nice and there was a good selection of hot and cold meals and snacks. I would. Suggest that the owners think about making the car park not gravel around the blue badge parking area and consider putting some paths in making easier access to the animals.

Transport & Parking

3.5

They need to deal with the gravel in the car park, as this wasn’t easy for either a wheelchair, scooter or those people who have limited mobility and sight issues. The scooter sunk a bit into the gravel.

Access

4

Access to the entrance, shop and cafe were good just up a a slope to get into. But getting round the farm wasn’t easy. Hardly any paths most of the time you were going round fields. Certainly not wheelchair friendly and I had to pick my route for my scooter. Access to the cafe was good all on one level and enough room for the scooter to go between tables

Toilets

4

The. Accessible toilet was roomy enough room for a wheelchair or scooter. The toilet was a raised one which you don’t find very often. The taps on the sink were levers but really rather stiff to use.

Staff

0

Other than paying the person at the desk to get in , or pay for our lunch we had no real contact with any staff. The only other person we saw was by the guinea pigs handing out the rods with food attached.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

They did have outdoor sinks in a few places for people to use after feeding the animals but a person in a wheelchair or scooter couldn’t access them and the bottles of hand sanitizer were empty. Luckily for me my daughter in law keeps a bottle in her bag as she’s a school teacher and carries it with her all the time .
