Overview

I visited this location specifically to review the charging facilities, and this is the best set-up I've seen so far. There are features for both accessibility and comfort at a standard I've yet to see at other sites.

Transport & Parking

There is a car park close to the EV charges, in the event you need to wait, with standard and accessible parking spaces. There are 9 EV Spaces at this location, with 6 charging units, which feature CCS 5kW DC, Type 2 43kW AC (with cables), and 50kW CHAdeMO DC Chargers. I understand that taxis often charge in the location, which can cause the area to get busy but I didn't see any on my visit mid-afternoon.

Access

These are the best EV chargers I've seen on my travels. Every space is wide enough for doors to be opened on either side of the car, and they're undercover, so there's no need to get drenched in a downpour as you charge your car. Each bay has a large rubber stopper, with plenty of room between the stopper and the charging points, which allows plenty of room for a wheelchair or powerchair to move, and extra space for any other mobility devices such as walkers and canes. Due to the stoppers, there are no obstructive bollards at any of the charging points, making it easy to access the cables, which are supported by heavy-duty retracting wires on five of the six units, that take the weight of the cable. The card readers and LCD screens are well placed, allowing access from a standing or seated position. The grounds around the charger are tarmacked, and smooth. There's also a bench, two bins and water dispensers, to fill up a travel bottle, or to grab a cold drink after a long journey.

New EV charging locations could learn a thing or two from this "Charging Oasis". So many places are leaving disabled drivers behind by building them out of their design. Motability provides free guidance on their website, so there's no excuse. Well done to Dundee on this installation!
