Overview
As a wheelchair user I am very happy with the ease of movement around the site, the restaurants and the activities areas. All staff that I have had contact with are very switched on to my needs.
Transport & Parking
When an accessible lodge is booked, our wheelchair accessible vehicle can be parked very close to the lodge, and left there for the duration. Movement around the site is easy, but wobbly adult & junior bike riders mean that vigilance is needed at all times. Mobility scooters are available to hire.
Access
Level, smooth cycle / pedestrian footpaths everywhere. Inside the Subtropical Swimming Paradise movement within the dome is easy enough. I used a wet wheelchair for the first time and found that works well. As I cannot self propel my wife struggled to push me up the ramp, out of the pool, but we were quickly helped by staff. Changing room area works for wheelchair users reasonably well with a disabled toilet on the set side of the changing area. A manual hoist and changing table is available. Every time I have entered the changing area a staff member spotted me and offered assistance.
Toilets
In our 3 bedroom lodge 485 the wet room is very good. Wide doorway, plenty of room to rotate, right hand transfer to toilet with a raised seat. Fixed shower seat with arms or a mobile shower chair. Unfortunately no lodge on site, with a ceiling hoist and/ or a wash dry toilet. Smallest accessible lodge is 3 bedroom, with only one accessible bedroom.
Staff
Everyone, from reception, chalet staff, restaurant and pool staff are very friendly and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The accessible bedroom has 2 single beds, one being an electric bed lifting both the leg and head end. There is enough room in the bedroom for my wheelchair. A mobile hoist can be booked in advance. As for improvements that could be made ... a fully accessible bedroom and wet room c/w ceiling hoist and wash dry toilet would be good. A 2 bedroom lodge with wet room etc would be good.
