Overview
This is a huge landmark hotel on the M4 corridor in South Wales, so you might expect it to respect disability / accessibility laws, but amazing there isn’t a single fully accessible room in the place. I’m only a part time wheelchair user, so I managed, but I’m always on the lookout , so I double checked, and disappointingly it’s true, no accessible bathroom in the place. One room with some rails ( mine didn’t) and an over the bath seat, ONE, but that’s it. What about the fab new Lodges they’ve just finished? Nope. The Spa itself is accessible although the changing rooms are a bit of a challenge to negotiate. They let me take my chair into the pool environment which was nice and there are rails and staff to help you in and out of the water. Couldn’t find the disable parking spaces, had to pay extra for a room that I could move around in my wheelchair ( they did say the standard rooms would be tight for that) and no rails in the bathroom, let alone a walk in shower ( we did have a discussion about that, reception describes all the showers as walk in, but they are not level access.) The staff were in the main absolutely lovely, I felt like a normal human being and that is a great compliment to them, just a shame the organisation as a whole makes it very clear that wheelchair users are not a clientele they want staying in their hotel.
Transport & Parking
I can’t comment on buses, we drove. We couldn’t see any disabled spaces in the car park we were directed to, and our vehicle was too high to access the lower level so we drove round the front and a nice man took our car away and parked it for us, and brought it back when we needed it.
Access
Public ares were ramped. Health club narrow and challenging ( I got stuck in a corridor unable to turn and unable to open the door at one point) but possible with help. Obviously hotel bedrooms / bathrooms are an issue, see main review
Toilets
Fine in public areas
Staff
Really very lovely
