Overview

The museum recreates the story of a wealthy family everyday life in Corfu Town in the 1800s. A guide accompanies you through the rooms of a restored town house describing how live would have been like for its former occupants. There are several animated figures and alongside the historic décor, charmingly bring the stories to life. There is a cost for visiting this museum.

Transport & Parking

5

Corfu Town is a short 5 – 10 minutes’ drive by taxi from Corfu Airport. There are buses that serve the town centre and taxis are plentiful and quite reasonably priced.

Access

5

The museum is in the centre of Corfu Town and is housed in the first floor of a historic town house. The ticket office is on the ground floor and there is a desk at standing height. There are 12 steps with handrails on both sides, see photo, to reach the museum. The stairs curve towards the top, however this was not a problem as the museum was not busy and I could take my time. A guide escorts you round the museum and gives commentary in English and is very informative. He re-creates how life would have been like in the 1800s. There are a couple of places where there is a small ramp to the next room and in the re-created cellar there are 2 steps down, this is the last stop on the tour. There are a couple of chairs where I could rest as I went around.

Toilets

The museum has installed 2 toilets, I did not use them but I don’t think they were accessible.

Staff

There was a woman at the box office selling tickets and a man doing the guided tour. Both welcomed me. The guide was very knowledgeable.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

After the tour I was invited to walk round the rooms unaccompanied. The museum is utterly charming, it’s a re-creation of a town house and rather than a museum with items in glass cabinets, loved it and highly recommend.
