Overview

CANALSIDE FARM, MILL LANE, GREAT HAYWOOD, STAFFORDSHIRE, ST18 0RQ This family run farm shop growing its own produce for 40 years, starting in 1983, is a treat, great quality food items, much grown by themselves, such as pick your own strawberries, which is how they first started, pleasant canalside cafe along the Trent and Mersey canal, large plant glasshouse with really top quality plants on sale, good Car park, and pleasant staff, that make this a nice must visit. It was the first farm shop to serve customers in Staffordshire, and grown from strength to strength. PHOTO 1. Canalside. Around the farm itself there are nice footpaths that wheelchairs can make use of if you fancy a bit of good Staffordshire fresh air. PHOTO 2. Car parking. We saw quite a few car parking areas, the most important right by the cafe, with easy enough paths to allow you to visit the whole farm. PHOTO 3. Disabled bays. A number of these quite close to cafe and the main shop and glasshouse. PHOTO 4. Cafe A slight slope with no problem for wheelchair users will allow access into the cafe, which in itself looks inviting and welcoming PHOTO 5. Easy movement Access around the cafe was spacious enough, plenty of room to get all types of chairs around. And a good selection of cakes and drinks on show. Plenty of room, Each table allows room to fit a wheelchair or scooter around, always kept neat and tidy. PHOTO 6. Pleasant outdoor safe seating canalside view veranda. On a warm sunny day, this would be an ideal resting place. PHOTO 7. Level access into farm shop. Well maintained safe level access into shop, with a sliding door just wide enough to allow most wheelchairs and most scooters into. PHOTO 8. Clean tidy well filled wooden cabinets Polished wooden floors, cream coloured cabinets, filled with a great selection of goods. PHOTO 9. BUTCHERS The butchers receive a full carcass from local farmers, and the team are experts at their work, using every cut possible, and make their own homemade sausages of which they are extremely proud of. PHOTO 10. Bakers The Bakery produces a very good selection of hand made oven baked fresh bread, the selection is one of the best we have seen, along with cakes, pies and their speciality doughnuts. The photo shows bread still being stacked at midday, freshly produced even at this late hour. PHOTO 11 Deli selection Alongside these are the Deli selection of homemade pork pies, pasties, sausage rolls and pates, all made as much as possible by local produce. And a wonderful selection of freshly prepared deli dishes, Samosas, Bhaji, Pasta, Quiche, (tried and tested by ourselves) delightful. PHOTO 12. fruit and Veg. Their fresh produce are provided by local farmers, and look as good as can be, all brought in at the right time of growing. Photo 13. Cheese department. The selection of cheeses are outstanding, we chose three cheeses, all very highly recommended for you, and you may select the size you want, and they will cut to your choice, what more could we ask for. PHOTO 14. Confectionery A delightful selection of jams, marmalade, dried biscuits, wines, and sauces. May we recommend their marmalades, just as mother made them, fruity, tasteful, filling, your toast will thank you at breakfast. PHOTO 15. Household goods A high standard of selected goods for your everyday needs PHOTO 16. Till. Please don’t shout at us when you get to the till, the cost will be well worth your choice. PHOTO 17. Glasshouse The huge glasshouse has easy access into it, along level paths from the shop, PHOTO 18. Plants galore A great variety of garden plants are offered, all in the glasshouse with paths just about wide enough for a wheelchair to move along, although some chairs will struggle, but plants are moved in nearer onto other benches. PHOTO 19 Good selection Popular garden plants are put on to benches near the main entrance of glasshouse, so these are easy to see. The condition of the plants are excellent and well cared for, so you will not be wasting money. As you may notice, we personally recommend this farm shop, we were highly pleased with the overall cleanliness of the whole farm, from well kept car parks, clean tidy and spacious cafe and shop, a well stocked plant glasshouse, and the friendliness of staff, a farm shop you must try when passing through this are. ============================================== PHOTO 20 On our Euans guide reviews, if you scroll down to the column “I,m proud to support” O You can click on the second heading “Help for Disabled Traveller” and details of all the places we have reviewed so far, can be seen, updated every week.
