Overview

Camden People's Theatre is a very accessible small, fringe theatre (i.e. off London's West End) which hosts a variety of shows. I've give the Camden People's Theatre, a rare score of 5 stars in every category, as the show was amazing, the theatre's website is full of useful access information, the theatre is on the ground floor, so level step free access without the need of any ramps or lifts throughout, accessible toilet and mega helpful staff who reserved step free seating before hand and were just so lovely on the day. It made it a delight to visit. We will be back.

Transport & Parking

There are several buses that stop close by either on Hampstead Road or on Euston Road. There are lots of tube stations close by but not all step free. Warren Street and Euston tube stations not step free. Euston Square tube station is only step free on the West Bound platform. I'd suggest taking the tube to King's Cross or Tottenham Court Road tube stations which are step free and taking a bus to the theatre, if you need a step free route.

WEBSITE Shout out needs to go to the theatre's website that has a lot of helpful access information. This is usually not the case when I'm searching for theatre venue information. ENTRANCE/ FOYER There is a step free entrance with double automatic doors. If you are approaching from Euston Road look out for the theatre sign, and the entrance to the theatre is the doors just before it, see photo. The foyer has a desk that doubles as the box office and bar counter. When you arrive go there and they will issue you with passes for the performance. This area has some free standing tables and chairs. There are no high stools. AUDITORIUM The auditorium is just behind the foyer, all on the same level. We had the option to go through earlier than the crowd, so the double manual doors were closed, but they were opened when the crowd went through. The front row of the theatre is step free and all subsequent rows are in raised tiers. All seating is individual chairs, with back support but no arms, so for the front row it will be easy to remove seating to accommodate a wheelchair user.

Toilets

The accessible toilet was next to the bar counter. It is spacious, clean, tidy and well maintained. There are plenty of grab rails and the emergency cord reaches towards the ground. I personally loved that the hand dryer was not too low down that I could stand and dry my hands with not bending, brilliant when you have a lower back pain. If there is one thing that could improve it is another door hook as it is too high up for wheelchair users, but also please keep the old one as well, so there is a choice of two.

Staff

Staff were fabulous. I emailed after I booked our tickets to request step free seating. I got an email back from Adam at 10.50pm, just five minutes after I had emailed my request, saying it was booked. When we arrived at the theatre, the reserve sign was on our chairs and we went through earlier than the crowd. The whole experience really too the stress out of going somewhere new. Thank you all so much.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We went to see Hercules Poirot, which was part of the Camden fringe and it was so funny and such a clever production. Later this week they have on And I'll Blow Your House Down which is about "A disenchanted storytelling and physical theatre show about family disability in an ableist society.", so I will be going back to the theatre to see that. The bar as a nice selection of drinks which are reasonably priced. Highly recommend this theatre as well worth visiting.
