Overview

Byron’s was an interesting place to visit, since I visited and last reviewed them in 2017, they had a new amended menu that was now more inclusive of non meat eaters and vegan provision. The burgers were proper as proper can be, living up to the reputation of being full of flavour. The dining area is large and spacious with ample seating at conventional chairs, benches and tables, for wheel and power chairs. Only drawback was the music was too loud.

Transport & Parking

4.5

I travelled by bus to Byron’s which is located on Lothian Road - a main link leading south out of Edinburgh near the City centre. Parking is allowed on Lothian Road after 18.30 hrs. There are bus stops either side of Lothian Road with toucan and pelican crossings nearby, the south and northbound stops are 50m from Byron’s. Services are 10, 11,15,16, 24, 34, 35, 36, 101, 124. There is ample parking in Grindlay Street, Bread Street and surrounding side streets with disabled bays.

Access

5

All on one level with wide spacious distances between tables, mixed seating, perfect for wheel and power chairs. There were no menus in different formats and the attendee offered to read out the menu choices.

Toilets

5

Very well appointed and fully accessible toilet, with red cord, grab rails and all equipment at seat level, ample room for carer and either power or wheelchair. Very clean, refreshed and cleaning regime board on inside. It was to the rear of the dining area near the bar area.

Staff

5

Excellent service from the greeting, introduction, expiation of toilet location to presentation of the menu - I was asked if there was anything I needed a few times whilst there. Staff were very attentive and consistent in their customer service to other people coming in and leaving.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Didn’t feel rushed or hurried, only issue was the music was too loud !, but that didn’t detract from the food. The restaurant is licensed and caters for children, families and large groups. Would certainly return. The front door is very stiff and opens outwards onto the street, a power assisted door would be advantageous.
