Overview
Directly across from the Wales Millennium Centre, you'll find two EV charging bays offering 50kW CCS and CHAdeMO charging. With Mermaid Quay nearby and a lovely café at the Millenium Centre, there are plenty of places to grab a coffee or a bite to eat while you wait for your car to charge – assuming you’re able to use the chargers.
Transport & Parking
Access
As is often the case, the charging facilities at this location are not particularly accessible. Both charging terminals are positioned side-on rather than at the front of the parking spaces. There's a small kerb in front of the machines, along with a raised plinth that unnecessarily increases the height of the chargers, and bollards on either side to protect them. The bays are long but no wider than a standard parking space, leaving no room to manoeuvre between your vehicle and the charging cables if you're using a wheelchair or walking frame. Additionally, the charging cables do not have support wires, so this may cause difficulties for those with reduced upper body strength. The machine is operated via a touch screen positioned high up on its front face, while the card reader is lower on the machine. This is yet another instance of EV charging infrastructure failing to consider the diverse needs of users.
Toilets
The Millennium Centre has several accessible toilets, including a Changing Places toilet. These facilities are maintained to a good standard, but as this review focuses on the Osprey EV chargers, I won’t provide a score here.
