Overview
It's not easy to give a beach a five star rating as a wheelchair user as there are so many things that can go wrong. Broughty Ferry Beach has undergone something of a transformation in recent times. The old narrow and uneven walkway has gone and a new wide esplanade created with seating spots, lovely views and much more.
Transport & Parking
The best way to get here is probably by walking, cycling or by car depending on what you need to travel. A large well laid out car park adjacent to the beach has several accessible parking bays. From here you have level access to the shoreside walkway and the ramp to the beach for the more adventurous.
Access
From the car park you have tarmac or paved level access to the beach side walkway. The walkway runs parallel to the beach so you have great views out across the sands and to the sea. During the summer there is a lifeguard station and an area marked out for safe swimming too. Access to the beach is possible via a ramp but the sand is deep. As we wheelchair users know; it's a bit of a no go area for most. Maybe, there will be beach wheelchairs here one day for everyone to enjoy. The new walkway runs all the way around to the castle that dominates the skyline. So you get to see Broughty Ferry castle, the Harbour, and the park with a great childrens' play area, crazy golf and go carting. Plenty of opportunity to take a seat for a while and just watch the world go by.
Toilets
Although elderly and show a look of tiredness the toilet block does have an accessible toilet. The toilet has a RADAR lock to the door. Once inside it has a neglected feel but is perfectly serviceable. It also has an adult size changing bench too. It's not quite modern Changing Places format but feels very close to it.

Anything else you wish to tell us?
A lovely spot to go and enjoy the sea air, seaside views and have a walk or roll in a relatively peaceful spot. One of our favourite places.
