Overview
Having had numerous difficult journey's with other British Airports Assistance Service's it was a relief to travel with Bristol for the first time. The desk is easy to find, they had a clear record of the booking. Helped with the bag drop, security was a calm experience and helpful with the chairs and directions clear about where to sit to wait air side. Even better the waiting area is next to their control room so even though the ambulift was late due to another flight holding it up they were able to come and reassure us that we hadn't been forgotten. This assistance for two wheelchair users was booked via TUI whose Welfare Team were also excellent. The only reason I have given 4 not 5 stars is the steep-ness of the airport site for wheelchair users, but they have done the best with the terrain they have.
Transport & Parking
They have a easy drop off point for those who have mobility issues with a covered walkway. The meet and greet parking was excellent. We stayed at the on site hotel and booked an accessible room with only one nights notice. A steep incline to get to the terminal though is the only issue.
Access
Covered walk/wheelway from drop off point to terminal which is flat. Access desk right inside first door. Short distance once inside terminal. No tunnels onto our aircraft so ambulift used. Accompanied through to baggage and right through customs on return Also passport control was easy and well planned, although wheelchair lifts a little small for anyone with a larger power chair.
Toilets
Good and clean. two in baggage reclaim. One right by the access waiting area in departures. Large enough for carer as well.
Staff
Excellent. Friendly and knowledgeable and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
If you have had a bad experience with Birmingham airport assistance as we have if Bristol is a viable alternative we would say it is a much better experience for the wheelchair traveller.
