Overview
We visited Brickhouse farm cottages for the first time last September for a family holiday. While it was great to see family and friends that we don't normally get to see the whole day that have quite a few ups and downs in terms of the venue.
Transport & Parking
There is plenty of accessible parking on site within walking distance of the cottages. There are also local buses which go from the local area to Preston and Blackpool. I'm not sure how accessible these are, and I'm not sure about the availability of Trains as we didn't use them.
Access
Overall, the disabled access to the whole site was great. All the cottages have been well thought out in terms of accessibility. There is a higher dining room table to accommodate a wheelchair user along with a Family. The sockets and plugs are generally an accessible height within reach of the wheelchair user, which is very unusual. There is also hydrotherapy pool which you can hire for 45 minute sessions. This really helped my condition. W whilst I was there, I went swimming for the first time in years. There are also hot tubs in certain lodges which are accessible via hoist, which is a real treat when you've never experienced that before.
Toilets
The majority of the venue itself has accessible toilets. The cottages themselves also have accessible bathrooms. One thing I would recommend is that the venue consider putting handrails on both sides of the toilet. A lot of the toilets on site only have handrails on one side. Having two handrails would really help anyone with balance and mobility issues move around a lot easier when in the toilet.
Staff
I have to say I was quite disappointed with the way the staff treated us. We mentioned a few issues whilst we were staying to help with the maintenance of the cottages, and the staff laughed at us. Also, we had some issues with Amazon deliveries going missing While we were there and again staff laughed. I really think some more staff training would be helpful to make it more pleasant experience for guests.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Please be aware that Amazon deliveries often go missing as the postcode is difficult to locate and when the packages are wrongly delivered the neighbour often intercepts them. Please don't order anything online unless absolutely necessary. Please also be aware that in the summer months the wasps often nest in the rafters between the cottages, this often leads to swarms of wasps in the upper bedrooms unless this issue has now been addressed by the management. There are ducks and geese who live on the lake, which the cottages are situated around, and they often come to the door of the cottages as they are very tame and are used to being fed by guests. I really enjoyed seeing them every day and being able to feed them as we bought birdseed from the local shops.

Venue Manager responded to this review
Hi Remus, I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with us and that you found our staff unhelpful and rude. This is not something that we have been made aware of in the past and we would like to discuss with the individuals to ensure it is not something that will continue. Previously we have had fantastic reviews about our staff and how helpful and friendly they are in some cases stating that staff made their stays even better. Would it be possible for you to provide me with details of the staff members in question in order for me to discuss with them? You can do this by contacting me on 01253 702 122 and asking for Kirstie or email me on info@brickhousecottages.co.uk. With regards to the Amazon deliveries, we are aware of these at times going missing due to the different names of our guests. If you had asked at reception we would have advised to mark deliveries to be delivered to reception as they tend not to go missing with this on them. If there are any more suggestions that you have to help us improve your stays with us please let us know as we are always looking for ways to improve and create truly accessible holidays. Kirstie, Cottages Manager
