Overview

The Glasgow Clan (previously called Braehead Clan) are Glasgow professional ice-hockey team. Their home is at the rink in Braehead Arena. It's an exciting game to watch... and you can follow the basics even if you've never been before. Suitable for the whole family.

Transport & Parking

Have only ever travelled by car to Braehead. There are large (free) car parks, though these can still get quite busy, particularly at weekends. There are many marked disabled bays, and their own security/parking team do inspect that these are used by blue-badge holders only. There are buses to Braehead, but getting there by public transport could take a bit of planning. No trains go there.

Access

Standard seating can be booked online, and there is a phone-line for accessible seating. Alternatively you can buy tickets in-person at the box office in Braehead - this has limited opening times, see website. You enter the arena directly from the second floor of Braehead shopping centre (where the food court is) . The whole Centre has smooth flat flooring. There are automatic/push button doors to the Centre. There are lifts to reach the different levels, in addition to stairs and escalators. At the arena there are wide open doors and flat smooth flooring. When going to a game it can be quite busy as people try to buy merchandise etc just within entrance of arena. There are flat walkways round the seats in the arena. The designated spaces for wheelchairs are directly from the walkway, on the same level. There is one wheelchair space, with a row of seats next to it, with another wheelchair space at the other end of the row. This is replicated around the arena, so there are quite a few wheelchair spaces. The spaces have metal rails on either side, so room available in each isn't flexible. Enough room for power-wheelchairs, but I'm not sure if would accommodate a scooter. Seating is all tiered so you get a good view from the space. We only had a problem with this once, when the crowd all decided to stand, and therefore blocked our view.

Toilets

We didn't use them but there are accessible toilets. Braehead shopping centre does also have a changing places toilet.. Which is why I've given it a high score

Staff

We found everyone helpful. From person I booked with on the phone, who checked what kind of seating we needed, to the staff there. There are staff standing throughout the seating area before and during the game who will assist/direct anyone.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This is a seasonal sport and mostly plays from around September to March. The website of Glasgow Clan tells you the dates of all their games and whether they are home or away. There isn't a discount for carers, so some people may need to consider this. Tickets are generally less than £20 each, so reasonable price in comparison to other sports. It is a family friendly sport. Although on the ice the teams frequently clash and are aggressive against each other - this is in no way reflected in the crowd. It feels very safe, and all fans enter and leave by the same entrance/exit, no matter who they support. As well as the game itself the experience includes entertainment for the crowd such as 'chuck a puck' and a raffle - with tickets from £1 its affordable for most people to be able to join in if they want. 'Clangus' the mascot often makes an appearance. Glasgow Clan have an app you can download, which gives you updates while the game is on, and let's you take part in the 'lights in the crowd' before the game starts. Remember you are sitting beside an ice-rink. It's not freezing cold, but wear layers of warmer clothing/take a blanket if you feel the cold.
