Overview
Great location, close to the town (about 5 min drive). Some staff seemed friendly, others definatly did not understand disability. booked via booking.com and requested a step free accessible room due to being a wheelchair user... they responded to confirm that they couldnt give me an accessible twin room as requested but could give me a double instead, this was an okay swap as it was me and my mum visiting... they did not however state this room was only wheelchair accessible to enter, not once inside. Once inside the room simple wasnt big enough to navigate via wheelchair, the bathroom was not big enough to even get my chair into... there were no red cords, grab rails to be seen and the shower entry was approx 30cm from the ground - making it unsuitable for me meaning i couldnt shower... i did not complain on arrival as i was exhausted from my journey and needed to lie down before the wedding i had travelled to attend (i had no time to seek alternative accomodation and had already been told their other accessible room the twin was booked out)... upon leaving the following morning we were asked by the receptionist about our stay and im really averse to causing confrontation, my mum explained the room did notmeet my needs as we were promised and was overall inaccessible, the receptionist responded saying that 'maybe they just thought you were a bit wobbly' when they responded to my request thus deemed this room to be suitable as it was very close to reception..however - as i stated above, i made it clear in my original request that i am a wheelchair user, i felt like she had no understanding of disability or even what the room i was given was like inside, i was not offered any refund and needless to say i wont be using this hotel again.
Transport & Parking
there was a free car park on site with disabled parking, however the camber in the car park to the entrance is severe so this is something to be mindful of.
Access
i think ive covered most of this in my main review, however there were lots of steps and steps into all other rooms. the door thesholds to enter either side of reception were quite high and i struggled getting over them. the was no seating in reception. the doors into reception had no access buttons so could not be used without assistance. the hotel bedroom door was heavy, opened inwards and would have been impossible without an able persons help. there is no lift.
Toilets
the toilet in the bathroom of thehotel room i was given was not accessible by wheelchair. there wre no grab rails, red cords, there would ot have been space to get my wheelchair in let alone transfer. there was a very raised from the ground corner shower which had a warning saying water hot, there were no grab rails or seat in the shower. there was a disabled toilet in the reception area however i did not use this so i am unable to comment on that.
Staff
the staff member on check in seemed friednly although didnt explai or mention anything about the suitability of the room id been checked into despite having seen me arrive in my wheelchair. the staff member on check out lacked understanding about disability or even the layout of the room i had been given. their response to our mentions of inaccessibility felt like they werent heard as they proceeded to say that 'maybe they thought you were just wobbly', this shows a lack of understanding for disabled guests, guests with hidden disability and any disabled person who is not just frail and needing somewhere close, close is great but disabled people like to be able to showr and brush their teeth too!
