Overview
I worked at boom battle bar for almost 2 years, when I started I complained about the accessible toilet (which isn't actually accessible as it's not large enough for a wheelchair user to perform a transfer) because the emergency pull cord had been cut at the box leaving no chance for a disabled person to call for help if they fall. 3 years later the cord has not been replaced. (Pull cord base box circled in picture) The accessible toilet is used primarily as a staff toilet, which resulted in me, someone with colitis, who cannot wait for toilet use, having two accidents while working there. The venue is down a double flight of stairs, it does have an access lift, which is somewhat difficult to get to as you have to go through a nearby pub garden to get to it. It opens out into the boom battle bar beer garden, which is cluttered with tables and barrels, and is borderline impossible to navigate in a wheelchair. This wasn't an issue for wheelchair users when I was working there because boom battle bar didn't care enough to get the lift fixed when it broke down. Instead disabled people were lifted out of their wheelchairs and carried into the venue, unsafely, and in an undignified manner. The staff are genuinely some of the best people you will ever meet, but the management had all of one good man in it, he unfortunately didn't have much influence to make change. The venue is dog friendly There is no formal accessibility training or sensitivity training at boom battle bar so if you complain that you aren't being accommodated they will likely not respond in a professional or entirely legal matter.
