Overview

SET SAT NAV. GL56 9BB. BLOCKLEY BLOCKLEY is a village in Gloucestershire, with a history dating back to 855ad, when king Burgred of Mercia gave permission to the Bishop of Worcester for a monastery at Blockley. By 1086, the doomsday book had records that the then Bishop of Worcester held the estate, and it remained such until 1648 when it was sold. Following the restoration of the English monarchy, the estate was restored to the Bishops of Worcester and held the Manor until at least 1781. The Church of St Peter and St Paul was built about 1180. This church was used as the church in the TV programme, Father Brown, while the Vicarage was Father Browns resident. Much of the land in this area was farmed under a open field system until 1772. The largest UK manufacturer of sidecars for motorbikes, Watsonian Squire, has been based in the village since 1984. One of the two public houses here is the Crown Inn, a former coaching Inn, while the courtyard at the rear is now being used as its car park. OUR PHOTOS It is a very picturesque drive through lovely countryside to get down into Blockley (photo 1) which is situated in a beautiful valley (photo 2) with its main attraction centred around the village square (photo 3) A short drive along its main street to a right handed bend, will take us to the Church, which is used in the Father Brown TV series (photo 4) while the Vicarage was Father Browns resident (photos 5 and 6) The main High Street has old country style Cotswold cottages (photo 7) highlighted by the historical Crown Inn (photo 8) Just on the corner of a junction we need to turn right (photo 9) but opposite this turn look over to the left for a nice scene down a narrow lane (photo 10) ================================================================== We now continue with our next point to visit, which you do not want to miss, as it’s the delightful hamlet of Snowshill SO SET YOUR SAT NAV TO. Transport & Parking

2

Parking can be difficult, as it’s mainly street parking, but it is a very picturesque drive to reach the village (photo 1) through wooded valleys, before arriving at the village (photo 2) at what is the liveliest part of the village.

Access

2.5

The lanes are narrow, hilly, and as there is nothing much here to see, other than attractive houses, and the Church, it would be best to stay in the car and enjoy the ride
