Overview

Blend is lovely, wheelchair accessible cafe Dundee City Centre. It is quite big and there is a mixture of seating types. They have a good range of food for those with dietary restrictions and the staff (for the most part) are lovely and friendly. I go there a lot and would definitely recommend it

Transport & Parking

The cafe is in the centre of town near the train station and bus stops. There are car parks nearby but we can usually get parked right outside using the blue badge

Access

The entrance could be improved by an electric door, it has a big glass door which is heavy and I’m unable to open and close it myself. There is no bell so if I have arrived on my own I’ve had to rely on the kindness of strangers. On the right side there are really good high tables which were perfect for my wheelchair, on my last visit I saw they moved there around so they were no longer accessible to me. I asked if one could be turned back the normal way and the staff did this. I can’t sit at the 2-seater tables as they have a large, extravagant metal design underneath which makes it impossible to sit at. I have transferred onto sofas a few times too, however these are very low and you may need assistance to do this.

Toilets

The toilet is huge! Plenty of space to turn and for a carer. However, there is only one toilet for the whole cafe. There isn’t a grab rail at the side of the toilet and there is no red cord or alarm. The floor is always wet because the sink is tiny. About 2 months ago I spoke to the staff about the lack of red cord or replacement grab rails (as there is evidence that there used to be some), they were a bit dismissive but said they ‘d pass it on. I was disappointed on my recent visit that this hadn’t been changed.

Staff

Most of (but not all) the staff including the owner are really lovely, friendly and helpful. Some staff have been super accomodating and knowledgeable about allergies, some also remember what I have when I go in!
