Overview
I used to love caravan holidays when I was a child, but have never been able to enjoy a caravan holiday as an adult due to lack of accessibility. So it was amazing to stay at Blairgowrie Holiday Park in a wheelchair accessible caravan. It's made me want to find more accessible caravans to enjoy with my family. It's in a beautiful location surrounded by stunning scenery, outdoor activities and perfect for relaxing. It's quite close to Perth and Dundee so great for days out too.
Transport & Parking
We drove to the caravan park and were able to park our car directly outside the caravan. There was plenty of space for getting in and out of the car in my powered wheelchair. The parking bay was tarmacked which made it easy to drive my wheelchair across when getting in/out the car and onto the ramp of the caravan decking.
Access
Ramp access into the caravan with a spacious decking around the outside of the caravan. There was also a wheelchair accessible picnic bench on the decking, which would be great in warmer weather. The doorway into the caravan was wide enough for my wheelchair, but there was also another panel of the doorframe that could be opened to make it wider if required. The livingroom was larger than I expected so I was able to move around freely without feeling restricted. The dining table was a good height for me to eat it, but the only downside was I had to remove my footplates to get closer to the table. The kitchen was also a really good size and had everything we needed. I'm unable to lift my arms independently, but the sink is wheelchair accessible allowing you to roll underneath if you are able. The cooker and microwave were also at wheelchair height, which is great. There was a wide hallway with sliding doors into each bedroom and bathroom. There were two bedrooms, both with twin beds in each. The main bedroom was incredibly spacious so I had absolutely no problems moving around in my wheelchair. The beds were also very comfortable. This bedroom had a portable helper frame which rolled under the bed to assist with getting out of bed if required. It was able to move out the way when not in use. The second bedroom was smaller but cosy.
Toilets
The bathroom was bigger than I expected. It was basic but had all the essentials such as grab rails beside the toilet, in the roll-in shower and at the sink. There was a wall-mounted sea in the shower. It would be great if there was a shower chair available to use as that would have been more suitable for me. I found there was plenty of space in the bathroom for me, my wheelchair and partner.
Staff
All the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Camperdown Wildlife Centre is located 30 mins from the caravan park and is a great day out. The wildlife centre is very accessible with accessible loos.
