Overview
In an attractive old building on the edge of the historic heart of this beautiful city, the Bistro 13 Balcken (there are thirteen beams in the ceiling) offers a range of delicious & attractively presented food.
Transport & Parking
We walked/wheeled the short distance from our hotel. There is a free disabled parking space opposite the Bistro. There are bus stops close by and it is approximately a 10 minute wheel from the train station.
Access
Level entry to the Bistro and reasonable circulating space with in. As it was summer, the doors were open. The staff are alert & attentive and we are sure would be quick to open the doors for a wheelchair users. The Bistro is all on one level. There are also tables outside in fine weather.
Toilets
There is no accessible loo in the Bistro. In daytime there is an accessible loo in the Grote Kerk, which is close by, and admission to the Grote Kerk is free.
Staff
Outstanding. Friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the food and the wine list. The chef and his team are at the top of their game.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
An ambitiously varied menu is delivered with flair and the food is beautifully presented. We found the Bistro on our first evening in Alkmaar and were delighted to return on subsequent evenings.
