Overview
This is a much improved station from the previous 'New Street' train station. It has a better layout, although it loses half a mark as the platforms are still dimly lit and a bit soulless. There are much better retail options too in this new station, and a better connection to the city centre which is undergoing a lot of changes at the moment. Beware that there are lots of construction works on the new tram line running past the New Street entrance, so it might be better to use alternative entrances to the station while this work is happening.
Transport & Parking
Seems to have good access, but as I don't drive I can't comment on the parking, there do seem to be multi storey carparks very close to this station.
Access
They have done lots of work to the station which has massively improved access inside and around the station. The lighting is much better than it used to be because of the design allowing natural light into the main concourse. The platforms need to be improved though as they are still a bit too dark and miserable looking. The signage in the station is just acceptable, they could have done a lot more work to improve it.
Toilets
I did not use it at the station.
Staff
The staff were very friendly and helpful at the station when I had to ask them a question.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Just to keep an eye on the ongoing works as they may cause issues for other visually impaired people and wheelchair/scooter users.
