Accessible vegan café in the city centre of Dundee.

Transport & Parking

With this café being directly in the city centre of Dundee there are lots of parking spaces available. There are a few of council car parks nearby where blue badge holders can park free, and there are some onstreet parking spaces also available. The train station is roughly a 10 minute walk away and there are bus stops nearby that go around the Dundee and Angus area.

Access

There is a slight step up to this café however, there is a small ramp to the left-hand side of the step that stays there permanently (circled in image below). I’m sure the width of the ramp is that of a standard wheelchair. The door isn’t automatic and might be difficult for wheelchair users to open, especially with the step behind you as the step is a little further away from the doorway. If you are visiting with more than 3 people and you are a wheelchair user then you might struggle to find a table to sit at because they are only tables with 2 seats. There are a couple of high tables at the windows but, they would be very hard to get to if it is busy or if any of the tables are full because there isn’t much space between tables. The counter is at a great height for wheelchair users to be able to talk to staff members but, the cake and sweet treat area is hard to get to because there are tables in front of them.

Toilets

There is one unisex toilet which I wouldn’t say is very wheelchair accessible. It is a long narrow toilet and you are not able to get to the further side of the toilet due to the narrowness. I think there might be enough room for a wheelchair user and someone to assist them but, I’m not 100% sure as I just got my helper to take a photo. There are grab rails beside the toilet but no emergency red cord. The closest Changing Place toilet is at the V&A which is open till at least 5pm everyday of the week.

Staff

The staff that we spoke to were friendly and helpful when we were ordering or food and drinks, it was just unfortunate that they didn’t have what we wanted.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

It was later in the afternoon that I visited Birchwood Food Emporium and they didn’t have a lot of the sweet treats that they sold and they also didn’t sell decaf tea. There is also a little vegan shop.
