Overview
Berrington Hall is a stunning Georgian manor house set it wonderful parkland, designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown, which is now owned by the National Trust. Unfortunately the only access to the Hall is by a flight of 12 shallow steps up to the front door. The Hall has various events on during the year. We saw a beautiful exhibition of "Delicarta" life- sized mannequins, dressed in paper costumes, atmospherically bringing to life the characters who used to live at Berrington. There was also a lovely exhibition of silk artwork by The Embroiderers Guild.
Transport & Parking
Disabled parking is available next to Berrington Hall or in the main car park, in well marked bays. There is a free golf cart lift service from the main car park up the hill to the Hall.
Access
There is no wheelchair access to the Hall, but there is a lift which can take a manual wheelchair down into the tea-room. There is a wide path from the main car park to and around the Hall but it is quite steep. The rolling parkland does not have any made paths, and has animals grazing, which makes the walking challenging in places. The kitchen garden is accessible by wheelchair, if you go onto the grass to avoid the small step on the path. There is one powered and two manual wheelchairs available for free hire at the reception area. The hall has 12 shallow steps into the main house, the ground floor is then accessible. However the upper and lower levels are only accessible by further flights of stairs, some of which are narrow and steep.
Toilets
There are accessible toilets next to the main car park and the tea-room, both of which are easy to find. They have grab rails on the walls and door. and drop down toilet rails. They both have room for an attendant, and are clean and tidy.
Staff
All the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
A beautiful venue with lots of interesting history to explore, and beautiful exhibits. It's a shame the beautiful building and parkland isn't more accessible.
