Overview

Stretching 2.3 km from the Pont de l'Alma (near the Eiffel Tower) to the Musée d'Orsay, and fully wheelchair accessible at both ends, this recently opened promenade features floating gardens in barges (also wheelchair accessible) fun facilities for kids and a variety of eateries, some on moored boats and others on the embankment. A lovely wheel/walk along the Seine with views of historic buildings and bridges. All the facilities are designed to be removable in 24 hours if there is a risk of serious flooding.

Transport & Parking

Can't comment on the parking. Don't try to get there by Metro - the nearby stations are not wheelchair accessible. Paris buses all have ramp access. We used a 69 bus to get to the Champ de Mars, from where it is a short wheel or walk to the western end of the promenade. The 63 bus route runs parallel to the walk. Be careful to check on-line whether the bus stop you intend to use is wheelchair accessible. A few are not, including the 69 stop at the Musée d'Orsay.

Access

No problems - the access ramps at either end did not challenge this 67 year old accompanist and would not challenge a fit manual wheelchair user who self-propels.

Toilets

We found one accessible loo in the course of the route. The approach is up a metal ramp with a totally unnecessary lip at the top, which is a small obstacle. The loo is spacious, equipped with grab rails and side transfer is feasible. There is an accessible wash basin but no alarm system.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch at an Italian cafe. The promenade is shared with cyclists and segway riders, whose behaviour can be erratic.
