Overview
I visited North Berwick beach wheelchairs hub with some Euan’s Guide Ambassadors. We spent the day exploring the beach with beach wheelchairs. We also got a guided tour of the beach and sealife and birds through the sea bird centre
Transport & Parking
I was able to park my car by the harbour by prearrangement with the harbour master and the Beach Wheelchairs group. Where is Accessible parking in streets nearby
Access
There was a hoist at the harbourside, and with the help of volunteers and other staff members, I was able to be transferred once into a manual Beach Wheelchair and again later on into an electric Beach Wheelchair
Toilets
There are accessible toilets in the seaboard centre. There is a Changing Places Toilet in North Berwick library which is about 7 to 10 minutes walk away.
Staff
The staff at the sea bird centre were really helpful and informative, and the North Berwick wheelchair volunteers really made the day possible, and without them we wouldn’t have had such a good experience. They were really keen for everyone to get the most out of their day. My thanks goes, especially to Melanie and Bryony, who went above and beyond to make the day possible..
Anything else you wish to tell us?
My favourite part of the day was being able to try the X8 electric, Beach Wheelchairs, which give me a huge sense of freedom of being able to access the beach independently for the first time ever! I got very emotional
