Overview

Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald is a wheelchair accessible elevated walkway in the Black Forest culminating in a spiral tower with an (optional) slide back down the middle. It's a very enjoyable and unique way to experience the forest.

Transport & Parking

There were nine disabled spaces near to the start of the walk, but it was more like on-street parking than a proper carpark due to its location. Although they are signed, we had to search around a bit to find one.

Access

The walk itself is fully wheelchair accessible. According to their website it has a 6% gradient at most. However, I would suggest that you take a wheelchair with power assistance or someone to help you as the path up to the start of the walk is a gravel forest path that can be difficult in places. The walk itself is wooden decking so it has a nice, smooth surface. All along the walk there are signs to read and activities for children with plenty of benches for people to sit and have a rest. The tower itself is a spiral ramp so is good for wheelchairs, however I didn't see any benches on the way up. There were a few sections where the decking leveled out for a couple of meters.

Toilets

There was a disabled toilet at the bottom of the tower, but there wasn't one that I could see at the start of the walk. The loo was fairly standard, with grab rails near the toilet and a basin at a good level. There was also a bin and the room was very clean.
