Overview
Smooth paths and no steps.
Transport & Parking
We had to park in the road. The website does not mention disabled bays and when the service was delayed we explored and could not find any. Every space was taken and it was very congested and busy. My Dad and Nan had to transfer into their chairs in the road as the pavement was narrow and covered in loose material. There is no pavement leading into the crematorium so cars passed close to us as we walked back in. When the service finished the congestion had gone and there were spaces but I could still see no disabled ones giving space for transferring.
Access
No signage for disabled spaces or the toilet which we found by luck. Although the paths were step free and smooth they are narrow and a queue is formed waiting to enter the building - to get to the toilet you have to get through the queue so it was slow going. Allow plenty of time for a visit here.
Toilets
The disabled toilet was clean and spacious BUT had 2 folded wheelchairs inside so my Dad and Nan could not get in till these were taken out. There is only 1 way to get to it which was slow going. There was no key needed. I also have a brother- in-law who uses a wheelchair and cannot walk though he drives. If he attended here alone he would have struggled with moving the folded wheelchairs. There were no staff about to assist. The disabled toilet is mentioned on the site but not the spare wheelchairs in it!
Staff
We did not meet any staff. I have emailed them today detailing our experiences and asking if there are any disabled parking spaces. I will update this if and when I receive a reply. If we visited again I would phone ahead and ask if a suitable car park space could be reserved and make sure the toilet is accessible. The funeral we attended was delayed, if it wasn't we would have struggled to meet my family's needs and get to the service on time.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
If you attend a funeral here you have no choice but to visit. Phone ahead and make sure things are in place for your needs. To be fair to them we didn't do this. Allow plenty of time, the one way system for pedestrians and cars slows you up a lot. We factored in an extra 30 minutes but it wasn't enough. Luckily our funeral service was delayed - never visited here before so do not know if that is usual.
