This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair

Overview

The accessible rooms are on the ground floor and equipped with spacious wet room. Sadly the front door is very heavy so assistance is needed. The bedroom is along a short corridor behind the downstairs bar, through another awkward door - though to be fair, we were offered assistance to bring our bags in (and out, when we left). Dining rooms are fully accessible - there's a long ramped passageway from reception to lounge/dining room. Beautiful, grand setting. Clear online booking system, which clearly identifies accessible rooms and what they include.

Transport & Parking

4

You need a car to get here. There's only one disabled parking space (not sure how many accessible rooms they've got?). The car park surface is shingle so a bit hard to wheel on, though it's not a great distance to front door. Gentle ramp to front door.

Access

4

No signage re access or means of summoning help at front door - though to be fair the front door is glass and opposite reception so you could wave (though no one came to our aid)! Apart from the doors, access was good. Plenty of room to manoeuvre wheelchair through reception (just a bit of a squeeze through bar and internal door, but not a major thing) and room to wheel into restaurant, then store folded wheelchair. Waiting staff helpful in seating us.

Toilets

Loo in our room was great - nice wide door, nonslip floor, grab rails, alarm etc. there was also a loo near lounge but it was off through a door and down a corridor. This wasn't signposted - we discovered it when we went to the pool. Whilst well equipped this was some way from the dining area and through a heavy door.

Staff

4.5

The waiting staff were extremely helpful, checking the suggested able was appropriate, moving chairs, offering physical help if I wanted it. Couldn't fault them. It would have been good to have help at the front door, which was awkward for my wheelchair pusher.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There's a very small swimming pool. This has shallow steps (as opposed to a ladder) and a handrail so if you can walk a bit, it is accessible albeit with help as the floor slopes in the water and is a bit slippery. Sadly there's no disabled changing room so I had to use the disabled loo down the corridor, which as no shower or bench. The addition of changing facilities would be great. Simple signage for the disabled loo from the lounge would be helpful too. It's great to be able to see and book an accessible room so clearly online. However it would be so nice to have a choice of room. There are 4 grades of room here and disabled people are restricted to the 2nd basic one. As this was a treat for my husband, I would've liked the top of the range room but that isn't offered as a choice for people needing accessible facilities.
