Overview
I attended this location specifically to review the facilities. This is one of three Changing Places toilets at the Barclays Campus. There is one in each building, although this is the only one accessible to the public. Situated on the Clydeside, there are views of the Clyde and its growing number of bridges, as well as a Cycle Path located just outside.
Transport & Parking
Local parking isn't great. The neighbouring flats have spaces which are residents only, I parked on Tradeston Street, where there is one accessible space and twelve standard spaces. There are no dropped kerbs on this street and the pavements aren't in the best condition The area around the campus is great and well-suited for use by wheelchair users. A cycle path runs along the Clydeside and busses stop in the nearby Tradeston area. The closest Railway Station is Glasgow Central, though they have a Changing Places toilet of their own.
Access
The access to the toilet is good, with a touchpad to open the door on the outside, and a touchpad to lock/unlock the door on the inside. The door opens outwards. A massive detractor from the access is the public entrance to the building via the Barista cafe, which has two heavy glass and metal doors that open outward. I had to rely on a customer at the cafe to get into the building as there was no call button. The fact that they have a Changing Places Toilet here is great but there's no indication of this from the outside and no clear signage on the walls, other than a plaque on the wall to the right of the toilet door. This is an amazing facility, that I'd love for more people to know about, especially as the Clyde undergoes further regeneration.
Toilets
The toilets are a solid 4.5, with just about everything you'd expect in a Changing Places Toilet. As mentioned there are touchpads inside and outside of the toilet, for opening/closing and locking/unlocking the doors. There is a large height-adjustable changing bed, a ceiling track hoist, a wall-mounted privacy screen and a height-adjustable wash basin with a lever-style mixer tap and a mounted shower. The toilet is spacious, as one would expect from a Changing Places toilet. A left-side wheelchair transfer to the toilet seat is possible, though the red emergency cord hangs in this area. It may be possible for some wheelchair users to complete a right-side transfer, though there is a small shelf on the wall, which could prove obstructive. This is a standard toilet and not a closamat type toilet, the flush is on top of the cistern. There are grabrails on either side of the sink, and the toilet seat. Additionally, this Changing Places Toilet features a large paper towel dispenser, for use on the change bed, a 3/4 length mirror, a soap dispenser, a Dyson hand dryer, a hand towel dispenser and an open-top waste bin.
Staff
I didn't speak with the staff at this location.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The facilities are great but are let down by a few minor issues. A sticker in the window of the café and some clear signage to the Changing Places toilet would be spectacular. A call button at the café would be a huge benefit, in the absence of installing an automatic or touchpad-activated door.
