An orphan and a young prince strike up an unlikely brotherhood in the long-awaited prequel to the 1994 Disney classic, directed by Barry Jenkins and scored by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

A chance meeting between two lion cubs sets in motion an expansive journey of misfits searching for their destinies, that ultimately tears them apart.

Director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) crafts an epic that follows Mufasa's rise to power and sees the first drops of bad blood spilled between brothers. In collaboration with the maestro Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Encanto), the soundtrack strikes the perfect balance between music and film score.

Starring Aaron Pierre as Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, we also see many of the much-loved characters from the 90s classic appear as their younger selves, such as wise mandrill Rafiki (John Kani) and chattering hornbill Zazu (Preston Nyman). Stars from the 2019 film return, with Beyoncé reprising her role as Nala, Donald Glover as Simba, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
