Overview
We recently went to Balgove Larder for a cup of tea and a cake. They didn't have soya milk (only almond milk) but they sold soy milk in the shop so we got it there, the tea and coffee were really good and the cakes were lovely! They have gluten free options too. The cafe was quiet and had a relaxed atmosphere, it's warm and rustic and there is nice art up. The staff in the shop were amazingly helpful, the accessible toilet was large and well adapted.
Transport & Parking
There are 4 blue badge holder spaces just outside. I had been concerned about the gravel but at the back and sides of your car in these spaces there is a pavement leading to the front door which solved that problem! Otherwise it would have been quite difficult, gravel is the enemy of wheelchairs!
Access
Step free access to get in, it was easy to get around inside- plenty of space. It was quite well signposted and we enjoyed having a nosey about. I could reach most of the shelves which was nice! In the cafe the tables are quite low and in my power chair I cant get underneath, I imagine manual chairs with armrests also wouldn't get under although your legs might! The chairs are hard wood so I didn't transfer into one. It is table service and the staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed out coffees and cakes, at 4 o clock the staff were cleaning and putting chairs on tables and at 4:30 they started sweeping and mopping which kind of ruined the vibe so we left early, the cafe shuts at 5.
Toilets
There was a big sign indicating where the toilets were. There was a ramp going up to them, the accessible toilet had a wide doorway and bar on the back of the door. It is a big room with plenty space for a carer too. I thought I got a photo but unfortunately I cant seem to find it! The toilet is spacious and clean, it had grab rails and lots of room to manoeuvre. There was a red cord hanging near the toilet which I added a red cord card to!
Staff
The girl in the shop (Kayleigh) was incredibly helpful and friendly, she was cheerful and just seemed happy to go above and beyond to assist, she made us feel welcome and looked after! The staff in the cafe were also friendly, but it looked like they were ready to close at 4 despite there being about 4 other tables of people still there.
