Overview
Bala Lake Railway provides part of a lovely day out in Bala. A round trip of around 1 hour with lake views and welsh scenery. A steam train assisted by volunteers who help maintain and run the railway.
Transport & Parking
We got a return trip from Llanuwchllyn which is just outside Bala Town. Plenty free parking at the station. Although I didn’t notice specific marked disabled bays, we parked easily.
Access
Access from the car park was fine. Although it was a squeeze onto the train, we have to remember this is an old restored steam train. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful and a ramp was provided straight onto train which had 2 marked disabled bays.
Toilets
We didn’t use the toilets so can’t comment on the access and whether there is a disabled toilet.
Staff
Phil was assisting on our journey...he made us feel very welcome and made sure we could get on the train and were ok. Very friendly, a smile and chat goes a long way. Thank you Phil.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Part of a lovely day out in Bala. Bala Lake has an accessible trail which you can start off at from the Leisure Centre. Plasey Street Car Park opposite the small Gulf petroleum station in Bala has free disabled parking and a disabled toilet (you will need a radar key). It’s a basic toilet but it is accessible. You can walk from this car park to the Lake on a nice flat pathway. For more info on the trail, visit go bala.com
