Unexpected gem in Kinross
Visit date:
Overview
Backstage is a hidden, yet internationally renowned, music venue tucked at the back of The Green Hotel in Kinross. It's covered in frames, pictures, and rock memorabilia, and the sound is incredible in this intimate gig space. Even better, it's on the ground floor! I saw Grateful Dead keyoardist, Tom Constanten, here in February.
Transport & Parking
Good-sized car park and great on-street parking outside the hotel too. It's a wide, open road with lots of spaces. We drove here so I can't say much about public transport.
Access
Surprisingly good! Was a bit put off by a revolving door at the entrance at first, but then spotted the standard door on the left as you go in. Once inside, you have to walk through the hotel (it feels like a front!) which is a bit maze like. Signage isn't the greatest to Backstage (it's great for the rest of the hotel), but I think this is to add to the hidden feel of the gig space. When we did arrive, the sticker-covered black door looked so out of place at the end of the carpeted corridor! Inside was small but not cramped, none of the seats were fixed so wheelchair users could have the choice of any viewing point - particularly as seats aren't assigned to tickets either. All on the one level means viewing is good. The sound is excellent.
Toilets
I didn't use the toilets so can't comment on these.
Staff
Only encountered bar staff, but they were friendly and helpful.
