Overview
A fun Fringe outing with a large group of people to see theatre and acrobatics. Venue staff were super helpful, and the view from the wheelchair accessible seating was great.
Transport & Parking
The gardens are surrounded by cobbled streets with limited nearby parking, so it's a little bit of a bumpy walk if you're coming via public transport from one of the main roads! A taxi could drop you off very close to the gardens however.
Access
Generally really good! The gardens themselves are astro-turfed which can make it a little tricky to anticipate bumps in the ground or changes in level, however it does keep the ground from getting muddy in the rain which is a relief. Getting into the Palais du Variete was interesting as we had to follow staff (a handy little queue jump!) through a side gate to the rear entrance of the pop-up venue. This involved on fairly steep bump over a cable guard, but it was manageable for those in our group who were using wheelchairs and powerchairs. Once inside, we had a great view of the stage and staff were very helpful when showing us to our seats. They also prepped us for some of the more unexpected aspects of the show which may have otherwise caught us by surprise.
Toilets
Unfortunately there aren't any toilets inside the pop-up Palais du Variete as they are situated in the gardens themselves. They aren't far away, but they also aren't the easiest to find if you're unfamiliar with the set-up. They are portacabin style loos and there is accessible loo provision.
Staff
Very helpful, met us as soon as we arrived and showed us around the venue before the show to make sure we were happy with our seating arrangements (we had requested extra seating for a large group).
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We went to see Casting Off which was a fun inter-generational acrobatics show!
