Overview
Fantastic day out for Mum, 89, who uses a rollator. The staff could not have been more helpful in ensuring that we saw as much of the castle and grounds as possible. There are buggy runs from the gate to the main entrance to the castle and around the grounds A member of the gardening team stopped, asked if they could help and radioed for a buggy to take us from the gardens back to the main entrance. There are lifts from the entrance to the main floor and then from the main floor to the second floor, but not up to the bedrooms. There are steps up to and within the Fitzalan Chapel, which mum managed to negotiate but this would be impossible for a wheelchair. While some parts of the garden have steps there are alternative ramped routes. Excellent accessible toilets. Lots of seating. Staff were really friendly - they just wanted all visitors to have a great day. Parking is a council car park opposite the main entrance, with accessible toilets, but you need a universal key to use them.
Transport & Parking
Parking was in a council car park opposite the main entrance to Arundel Castle, with accessible toilets, but you need a universal key to access them. Crossing the road may prove difficult as there is no zebra crossing. That said we had no problems as traffic flow was light.
Access
Lift from entrance to main floor and another lift from main floor to first floor. The bedrooms on the second floor were not serve by a lift. The keep was also inaccessible, with stairs within. Although there were some steps in the gardens all areas were also accessible by ramps.
Toilets
Loos were great. All accessible loos had grab rails and plenty of space.
Staff
All the staff - guides in the rooms, members of the garden team, workers in the restaurant and shop, drivers of the buggies - were so kind and helpful. They just wanted to ensure we had a great visit and made the most of our day.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
