Overview

Visiting Amsterdam, we had the zoo as one of our top places to visit. We weren't disappointed and spent the day exploring and seeing all the animals. It was particularly notable as it was easy accessible for me as a wheelchair user as well as providing some up close experiences for my visually impaired pal.

Transport & Parking

We walked to the zoo as the weather was glorious and we enjoyed seeing all the places on the way as we walked from our hotel adjacent to the station. The city does have a good tram network and once you understand how the tram's wheelchair access works it is fine to use and the staff are helpful.

Access

We found disabled access for us at the zoo worked very well. The surfaces were relatively easy to wheel along and there weren't any big hills or uneven sections. We were able to get good views of everything, so much so some of our photos look as though we may have been in the enclosures with the animals. There were plenty of seats to stop for a while and have a rest as well as shady spots to avoid the heat of the sun. The zoo had several accessible toilets too which was good. We found the zoo map very helpful in planning how to get around.

Toilets

The accessible toilets were good once you managed to find them. Well equipped, clean and spacious.

Staff

We found the staff very helpful and informative. Many spoke English and we were able to find out about the things that were important to us such as accessible toilets, places to rest a while and refreshments.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We fell in love with the zoo and were amazed at how the time flew by as we worked our way through the different areas and saw so many animals as well as the beautiful gardens.
