World Renowned Islay Whisky distillery in idyllic setting
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair, Powerchair
Overview
Arbeg is a firm favourite Peated Single Malt whisky drank all around the world and the new owners clearly want everyone to be able to access their iconic buildings and enjoy the experience. I was given a free 121 tour because the grade 1 listed buildings have not yet been made fully accessible but work is very much underway to make it fully accessible. The wheelchair lift has been installed and the engineer was on site commissioning it!
Transport & Parking
Ample disabled parking and on the bus route. However, what is more exciting is the perfect ribbon of tarmac that runs from Port Ellen all the 5 miles to the Ardbeg distillery - stopping at Laphroaig, Lagavulin then Ardbeg. This permissive shared footpath and cycle way means access for all in safe and healthy way, absolutely genius!
Access
Everything that can be made accessible soon will be but in the meantime the staff bend oover backwards to accommodate disabled visitors
Toilets
There is at least one accessible wc but it was in use whilst i was there and as I did not need to use it I did not get photo's inside
Staff
Exceptional. Falling over themselves to accommodate us.
