Overview
Old theatres are a challenge in terms of access. The theatre allocates an Access Host to assist. There are steps into the venue from pavement to lobby, then from lobby to dress circle - two wheelchair lifts give access in theory. Regrettably, they've seen better days and the former was broken when I first tried to book then amazingly on the day I visited!
Transport & Parking
Nearest accessible Tube station was Westminster - about fifteen minutes on foot. Buses abound and presume could be taken to the venue as it's located in Victoria. Didn't see any Blue Badge parking nearby.
Access
I'd like to say it was good despite the obvious building limitations. However staff said the external wheelchair lift breaks regularly. There was no alternative for me but to walk up five steps - I had to have my legs lifted for me. Don't know what I would have done if I was completely chair bound or had had a heavy electric chair. Theatre needs a new lift! Or they need to let patrons know in advance - not acceptable to put people in this position at the door.
Toilets
I was informed there is an accessible loo but I didn't visit it.
Staff
Our host Michael was first rate - attentive, pleasant, helpful. He made our visit run smoothly despite the lift. He came to see us at the interval and returned my chair promptly at the end.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Get that lift replaced, Apollo Victoria! Whilst the theatres price reduction for my seat in the dress circle was appreciated, the tickets were still expensive. Basically I had no choice of where to sit eg couldn't pick cheaper seats in the stalls - there was a bit of a like it or lump it attitude from the ticket agents.
