Angels is certainly heavenly, one of the best afternoon teas I've ever had, in a charming cafe with step free access

Overview

Café serving breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas to die for. As well as indoor seating there is a patio which overlooks Babbacombe Downs and the sea.

Transport & Parking

Babbacombe is near Torquay. The nearest railway station is Torquay. There are buses that stop nearby. There is a car park which is about 5 - 8 minutes walk away.

Access

4.5

Directly from Babbacombe Downs there is a step free entrance into a patio area where there is free standing tables and chairs and sea views. There is a manual double door to enter the café. One door was unlocked but it was too narrow for me and my crutch so someone had to undo the lock on the other door for me. Into the café there wasn't a step and inside again there were free standing tables and chairs. The café is on the ground floor. The café is waiter service but you may want to go to the counter to look at the cake selection.

Toilets

There were toilets in the café but I didn't use them so unable to comment and don't know if they are accessible or not.

Staff

Staff were welcoming and helpful, eg opening the entrance door so I could go in and out to the cake counter. Service was prompt and friendly.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This café is extremely popular and tables get filled up quickly so it might be an idea to reserve a table in advance. I sat outside and I love my afternoon teas and this was one of the best I've had both in terms of the deliciousness of the food, choice and presentation. I had an Angelic Half Tea, which served 1 person and was amazing value at £12 (2018). It consisted of a sandwich of your choice from their regular menu and I was asked if I wanted it toasted. There was also hot cinnamon toast, a scone of your choice from a nice selection, I had white chocolate chip and there were chunks of chocolate visible when I sliced it and a slice of cake of you choice, I had Victoria Sponge. It was served with a pot of tea and a jug of hot water. Although it was busy I was able to enjoy a leisurely meal. It was extremely filling and I was unable to eat any of my cake, so they offered to wrap it up and I ate it later. The whole experience was delightful and afternoon tea does not have to be pre-ordered. I'm already planning to go back next year when I return to Devon. Highly recommend.
