Overview
Alfred Place Gardens is a new public park which opened in early 2022. It runs the length of Alfred Place, a street parallel to Tottenham Court Road. The park is not enclosed so is open at all times. It offers plenty of seating. There is also a play area for children aged under 14 years old.
Transport & Parking
The nearest tube station is Goodge Street which is not step free. However, Tottenham Court Road Station is step free and a short walk away. There are also several buses that stop in Tottenham Court Road. The nearest bus stops, in both directions, are Goodge Street Station. From there it is a couple of minutes, level walk to the park.
Access
The park runs the length of Alfred Place, from Chenies Street to Store Street. It's a long, flat path which passes next to a small, lawned area. There are also mature trees and small flower beds. There is plenty of seating, with sculptural granite and timber benches, some of which have arms and back support. There are also some free standing wooden chairs with back support and arms. I visited between Christmas and New Year, when it was quiet. The park and seating area is excellent. Also running the length of the street is a cycle lane and there is tactile paving to let you know when you are crossing the path. There is also a children's play area for under 14s. The selection of outdoor play equipment is quite limited as appears to focus on objects to climb on, including a rope bridge. None of this appears accessible for children with mobility disabilities. There is a sign saying "This play area is intended for children 14 years old and younger, dependent on ability". Personally I found the wording ableist, as it's saying you can play on this as long as you are able bodied. It would have been helpful if choice of play equipment had been more accessible for children with disabilities.
Toilets
There are no toilets in the park.

Anything else you wish to tell us?
The park is a welcomed addition to the West End. It's just off busy Tottenham Court Road and provides a quiet, little oasis. There is plenty of seating. It's a good spot if you are close by and looking for somewhere with outdoor seating other than a cafe, to have a rest. It would also make a quiet cut through if you are walking down Tottenham Court Road and wanted to get away from the crowds. The park area is very pleasant and well laid out. My only reservation is the inaccessibility of the play equipment. However, this is a lovely spot if you are looking for somewhere the sit and relax.
